Cass corners a straggler on Christmas Eve.

Christmas is the most important day in the Carrigstown calendar, with locals typically downing tools and schemes for a number of hours to enjoy a festive meal with their loved ones. Owing to the large amount of year round scheming that goes on, it is often the case that there is a degree of shuffling from year to year in terms of the attendance at these feasts. Most locals will aim to spend the day with their immediate family. Often one or two extended members of the family may also join. In other cases, those without an immediate family may lean on friends hoping for a generous invite into the warmth of another family on the day. A less common pattern is that of a number of outcasts getting together to form their own patchwork unit for the day. The most extreme and unfortunate case, however, is that one has run out of all options and faces the possibility of spending the day alone. Many of the greats of Carrigstown including billionaire property tycoon Paul Brennan have found themselves down on their luck at one stage or another and in this very situation. For these low moments, the least detrimental option available to them is to spend the day with eternally jolly Cass Cassidy who hashes together a Christmas dinner every year with whomever he can find. This is known as A Cass Cassidy Christmas and is typically looked back on as a low point for anyone involved. While it is indeed a tragic realization to have hit rock bottom, spending a Christmas with Cass is also an opportunity to deeply reflect on one's life and make decisive positive changes to better themselves going forward. For Paul it reinvigorated a hunger in him and a fire that burned for the decade that followed.
