John Deegan
John Deegan is the main detective serving Carrigstown. Billy Meehan infamously laughed in John's face in several scenes during the early 2000's and it is thought that John has been offered in excess of €100 million by Paul Brennan to write a book documenting his interactions with the notorious and iconic gangster and publish it under Brennan Books. It is rumoured that the offer was never genuine and instead Paul was scheming in order to humiliate the police officer by having him beg on his hands and knees.
Deegan is widely regarded as a disappointing pintman, known to be unable to put away more than 4/5 pints in any one sitting. As the cooler detective, Steve Yates serves to contrast Deegan at every opportunity and can, in any one sitting, put away in excess of 12 pints.
Deegan once described himself as someone who has a nose for bullshit in Faces of Carrigstown; a book about the people in the local community. This drew immense criticism from members of the community with Oisin Brennan stating John wouldn't know bullshit if he stepped in it and other members of the community highlighting the irregular and frankly bizarre pattern of crimes that have occurred in Carrigstown over the years with practically none of them ever being solved. One notable case was Katy O'Brien being abducted and held captive for a number of months. The entire time John Deegan was regularly playing 5-aside football with kidnapper Ciaran Holloway and none the wiser.
